Here’s what to do, in four simple steps:

1. Download the Where Are YOU? Wednesday! thought bubble of your choice, found here (just choose your favorite design and download)

Where Are YOU? Where Are YOU? Where Are YOU?

2. Grab a marker/pen and write in where you are – school, pool, birthday party, vacation, etc.

3. Snap a photo (no need for anything fancy, a phone pic will work just fine!)

Life is a Gift

Shine Your Light

Call it amazing. God takes a handful of dirt and makes a man. Very humble beginnings for people who think so highly of themselves. Have you felt jealous of anyone lately? Do you think you deserve more than you have? Are you mad at God because your family doesn’t have some of the comforts other families do? Maybe it’s time to remember where you came from—dust. Yep, you (and all the people you’re jealous of) are just a bunch of dust.

Your life is a gift. It’s a blessing to be on earth and to be able to enjoy life. You’ve got the freedom to choose what you’re going to do with your life. The point is to make something out of the gifts God has given you. Your body, mind, emotions, and personality are specially crafted by God for this purpose. God wants you to use the time you’ve got on earth and the gifts you’ve been given to glorify him. Your glory comes later. Paul says that everyone in heaven will have a body like the glorified Christ. There’s a lot to do between now and the time you get to heaven, so get that old, dusty body in gear. God has great things for you!

The first man came from the dust of the earth. The second man came from heaven. People who belong to the earth are like the first man of earth. But those people who belong to heaven are like the man of heaven. I Corinthians 15:47-48 NCV

God IS Listening

Shine Your Light

You’ve tried praying. But you feel like you’re just launching words into dead air and thinking they’ll magically make a difference. Why talk when no one’s listening?

The guy who wrote this particular book knew the feeling. Rough-and-tumble Peter, sidekick to a mysterious traveling man from Nazareth named Jesus, saw everything he dreamed about blow up in his face as his Lord was led away to die. This is what he gave up a good-paying job for? Ridicule? Embarrassment? Maybe even the end of his life? “Why me, God?” he must have cried into the heavens

But God was doing something more loving than easy answers to Peter’s questions would have done. He was letting Peter do some searching to prove to himself that his faith was in God and not in his blessings.

Your ceiling may seem dark and silent. But God is watching. And listening. And waiting. And working. And one day, you’ll wonder why you thought he wasn’t.

The Lord sees the good people and listens to their prayers. But the Lord is against those who do evil. 1 Peter Peter 3:12 NCV

Grrrrr!

Shine Your Light

Why doesn’t she realize how unfair she is? Few things can make you as mad as other people’s bad behavior. Remember when your dad yelled at you for something you didn’t do? Remember when you BF believed that lie about you and ditched your friendship? Sometimes good people do mean things, even if they have good intentions.

When people let you down or do something dumb, it’s easier to write them off than to stick around and work through relationship imperfections. But make no mistake, it’s still important that you offer forgiveness. If you believe in everything Jesus did for you, you can’t hold grudges. Why would you want to, anyway? A grudge hurts you worse than anyone else. This verse is a reminder that if you’re following Jesus’ example, you need to forgive people.

Try some of these tips to control your anger: take ten deep breaths before doing anything else; this gie you time to remember that you’re speaking to another human being. Take a walk—exercise floods your system with endorphins, helping you deal with negative feelings. Listen to soothing music until you can think straight. Give someone a gift. Be nice—even when other people aren’t—it does wonders for your crummy mood. Draw a picture of your anger, and turn it into something hilarious. Most importantly, pray that God will help you deal with your feelings so they won’t wreck your relationships.

Bear with each other, and forgive each other. If someone does wrong to you, forgive that person because the Lord forgave you. Colossians 3:13 NCV

Courtney Clark Cleveland on Friendship: Tip 4

This week is my fourth and final suggestion in our conversation about “Being a Good Friend.”

This is actually my favorite one because it is through this that I have found my best and deepest friendships.

Sure, #1 Asking Good Questions, #2 Being a Safe Place and #3 Being Myself have helped but its #4 that has been the glue.

Are you ready?!?

#4 – BE HONEST

I’m not talking about the kind of honesty where your friend asks you if you like her outfit and you think its ugly so in the spirit of being honest you tell her – “It’s ugly.”

I’m talking about being honest about your life – your own struggles, failures, successes and dreams. There’s nothing more freeing than going out on a limb and sharing a piece of yourself with someone for the first time and having them respond – “I also feel that way! I do that sometimes too!”

Of course, there is a learning curve for stepping out on that limb. I’ve always struggled with being a little too honest. Let me explain.

STORY TIME:

One day I was in rehearsals for a play when we took a break to talk a little more about the script. The theme, funny enough, was about the masks we wear and things we hide behind that we don’t want others to know about. So as an exercise, we decided to all share a mask that we wore in our own lives.

So in rehearsal, for a play, I shout – “I DON’T LIKE BEING AN ACTOR!!!”

Umm . . . awkward. Probably not an appropriate place to share or good timing. After all this was my job!

I got fired.

KIDDING. They knew how emotional I was and extended grace. ;)

MY POINT is you’re not necessarily always going to get this process right. Don’t let the FEAR of the response keep you from being honest in the first place.

Being a good friend is like shouting from the rooftops – YOU ARE NOT ALONE!! It’s being willing to share the hard stuff and trust others FIRST with YOUR story, so that they’ll know they can trust you later with THEIR story.

So who can you share your story with this week? In a recent conversation with a friend, did you hold back when you knew you needed to say something different? Is there a friend you need to reach out to and say “Thanks, you’ve always been honest with me even when I didn’t want to hear what you said.” Remember, don’t let the fear of how someone could respond keep you from being honest.
