God Wins!

God Wins!

Too often this world we live in seems like a crazy and dangerous place. We hear about it on the news every night and learn about it in school day after day. But if you spend too much time thinking about all the things that can go wrong and do go wrong in our world, you’ll soon find yourself living a life of fear, sitting at home in your bathrobe, afraid to leave your house. Bottom line:  we live in a fallen world, apart from God, and bad things will happen. But we don’t have to live in fear of those things. Jesus says yes, we can expect some trouble in this live, but not to lose our courage. Through his death and resurrection, he has overcome all the sin and evil of the world.

So when you feel unsure and afraid, when you feel targeted for your faith or you worry about the future, remember this verse and be brave. God is in control. The end of the story has been written—God wins!

“I told you these things so that you can have peace in me. In this world you will have trouble, but be brave! I have defeated the world.” John 16:33 NCV

The Holy Bible

The Holy Bible

The Bible is a love letter, a written record, and a spiritual handbook about God and his people. It’s full of truth, incredible stories, and terrific advice. Lots of different people wrote it, but they were all inspired by the same God. If you read it from beginning to end, you’ll get this epic story of the human race, our separation from God, and the incredible thing Jesus did to restore that relationship.

Why not read it from cover to cover in a year? Sure, it takes a little commitment. But if you’ve never read the Bible regularly, brace yourself—this book gets in your blood. Want to win a battle with Deborah? Fight a giant with David? Sail the Mediterranean with Paul? There are multiple ways to read the Bible through. Check the New Testament reading plan in your Revolve BibleZine or do an online search for “Bible reading plans.” If a plan is too fast for you, take two years to finish it. Whatever you do, just keep reading,–you won’t be sorry!

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for showing people what is wrong in their lives, for correcting faults, and for teaching how to live right. Using the Scriptures, the person who serves God will be capable, having all that is needed to do every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NCV

A Royal Obsession

I was a little obsessed.

Okay, not a little.

A lot.

A lot obsessed with the royal wedding that just went down at the end of April.

I read royal wedding articles leading up to the big day.

I had six hours worth of royal wedding television on my TiVo.

I celebrated at two royal wedding parties.

At the royal festivities, we made our own foil tiaras, sipped on tea, baked home-made scones and drooled as Kate Middleton walked down that 4 minute stretch of red-carpeted aisle.

I was so jealous that the English had a day off and I didn’t! Come on Obama! Why didn’t you give us an official holiday?

So I protested by proclaiming my own official holiday and did absolutely nothing but watch the television (or as the Brits calls it, the “telly”) and eat carbs.

At the time, I didn’t see anything abnormal about my day.

Then… well… I woke up. The next morning I started laughing at the dirty teacups in the sink and scone crumbs on the floor. I started thinking…

First of all, is there something wrong with me? Do I need to see a psychiatrist? I just wasted 24 hours of my life obsessing over a wedding that 9 hours away from by plane and 6 hours different in time zone.

Second of all, what is it?

What is it that made me giddy with delight as soon as I flipped on the “telly” and saw Kate climb out of the Bentley car for the first time, displaying her white silk and French lace? And what was it in me that was screaming (on the inside of course. I’m not THAT crazy.), “That should be ME! I should be that royal bride!”

So I started to do what I do in most areas of life – over–analyze. Any other over-analyzers out there besides me?

I began looking up verses in the Bible about brides and royalty. Here are some verses that helped me understand why I went royally insane that 24-hour Friday.

Ephesians 1:4-5, “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.”

Isaiah 62:5, “as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you.”

Revelation 21:2, “I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.”

Before you and I were born, we were chosen – chosen by a King to be adopted into his family. Before you and I were born, we were predestined – predestined to be one with God like a bride is with her groom and be loved by God like a bride is by her groom. Before you and I were born we were created for a wedding day – a wedding day when Jesus will come back and take every heart that believed in Him to be His forever in heaven.

You see? Behind this carb-shoveling, tea-drowing, kate-drooling, TiVo-watching girl, there was (and still is) a truth written on my soul that connected to the royal wedding I obsessed over.

And that truth says that I was created to be in a royal family – the kingdom of God family. And I was made to be loved and claimed by a groom who promises to return.

If you are a Jesus-lover, you have that truth on your heart too. So maybe that’s our answer. Maybe that’s why I was internally screaming, “That should be ME! I should be that royal bride!” Because we are her! We are that royal bride! Now, THAT’S something to celebrate. That’s maybe even something to be royally obsessed about. :)
