Luke 19: 41-42
You never have to wonder if Jesus was fully human and fully God. This passage proves he was both. He’s just received a hero’s welcome and ticker tape parade while entering the city. Fans cheered wildly and declared him King. A pretty exciting day, yes? It was like winning a ton of awards all at once! But Jesus was not rushing off to an after-party. There was no acceptance speech or wide-mouthed grin on his face.
No, he was somber and sad. Crying, in fact- and not tears of joy. His heavy heart proves he was a human, and subject to human emotions. But the reason for his sadness shows he was God on earth. He wept because he knew what the future held. In the next few days, this same crowd would be in a frenzy, furiously calling for his execution.
As a teen girl, it’s pretty interesting to know that Jesus cried. After all, crying can become a pretty common occurrence during the teenage years. Your Savior knows all about changing emotions. Just look at this one day in his life: from top-of-the-world royal treatment to down-in-the-dumps sadness in a matter of hours. And Jesus had other emotional times, too, like when his friend Lazarus died (John 11:33-35).
So next time you feel emotional and teary-eyed, talk to the one who understands better than anyone else first. Before you text or IM your best girlfriend, consider spending a few minutes talking to Jesus!

In a world that worships instant gratification for every desire, patience is a rare quality. We want stuff, and we want it now. But patience is vital. It should be a deep-rooted way of life for Christians.
God is patient with us (1 Timothy 1:16; 2 Peter 3:8-9). As God-followers, we must realize that God is pleased when we patiently wait on him and have patience with other people, just like he’s been patient with us.
Patience is the ability to endure anything…waiting on God, suffering through trials, resisting temptation, dealing with imperfect situations, and loving people who seem “unlovable.”
Patience comes from the Holy Spirit working in your life (Galatians 5:22) – it certainly doesn’t come naturally! Second Corinthians 6:6 says that we show we’re servants of God through our patience (among other virtues). Ephesians 4:1-3, Colossians 3:12-17, 1 Timothy 6:11, 2 Timothy 3:10, and Revelation 13:10 clearly teach how patience is an important piece of the puzzle. Living to please God always includes the quality of patience.
Love requires patience (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). Hope and faith both include the idea of patiently waiting for God (Romans 12:12; James 5:11). Definitely don’t underestimate the importance of being patient!

Joshua 8:32-35
Have you ever become so caught up in the stuff of life that you’ve forgotten about God? Daily activities like going to school, doing homework, and hanging out with friends take up so much of your time that you begin to neglect your relationship with God. You may even be busying yourself with God-related activities– going to church, taking part in Bible studies, or serving in ministry– but somehow, you’re leaving him out of your life. It’s like you’re in the same room with him, but there’s no interaction. You’re lost your focus.
The Israelites were in serious danger of losing their focus. God had led them into the Promised Land and defeated the people living there. They could’ve easily become more focused on who they were fighting against than who they were fighting for. To prevent this from happening, Joshua read God’s word. As they listened, they were reminded that it wasn’t about gaining land – it was about living for God.
Are you letting your busyness of life distract you from nurturing your relationship with God? He wants your life to be centered on him- for everything you do to flow out of an authentic love for him, not obligation or habit. Just as the Israelites did, focus on God’s presence and his Word- and do this daily. Keep your life focused on him; there’s no better way to live!

Jenna Lucado Bishop is on the adventure of a lifetime and she’s blogging about it! Check out her first blog entry below as she travels across the world to pursue a dream.
So I’ve never done this blogging thing before, and to be honest it intimidates me! So I beg for your patience as I get to know this new blogging culture (and as my grammar is far from perfect). Our first entry is from me, since I got Brett and me into this mess. You will hear from Brett a little later. So here we go … First post…Hmmm…How to start…
Maybe it was all the bean and cheese tacos at Taco Cabana. Maybe it was Ricky Martin’s suave moves. Maybe it was growing up in a city where Spanglish is a language and the minor league baseball team’s mascot is a walking taco with arms. Maybe it was the Sunday afternoon family lunches at Alamo Cafe where my sisters and I turned eating tortillas into a masquerade party, biting three holes into the center of the tortilla – one for the mouth, two for the eyes.
Or maybe it was being born in Latin America, passing out church flyers on the streets of Brazil at the age of two (nice marketing, Dad). Maybe it was growing up in a family where the poor were not strangers, where serving was familiar and rice and beans were a favorite meal. (Picadillo. Look up the recipe. But it won’t be as good as my mom’s.)
Maybe it was the hours of Spanish homework, watching too much Dora the Explorer or singing worship songs in Spanish at Oak Hills Church…
Maybe.
But I have a hunch that it goes further back than my tortilla-face days. I have a hunch that as God spoke me into existence, he whispered a dream into my heart that hasn’t stopped echoing.
Latina America. I’m supposed to go there. I’m supposed to serve there, live there, love there. I don’t know why! But I just know that the dream He spoke into me is finally coming true.
Brett and I are on our first-ever, one-way flight. A one-way flight to El Salvador where we will be living with and serving alongside one of the most courageous missionaries I know, Kara Wilson. We will stay there for the better part of two months, and then we are off to Guatemala City. There we will live with over 60 orphans at an orphanage called Fundaninos along with a couple from Ft. Worth, Scott and Carrie Hunnicut. And because of your financial support we are transforming the orphanage’s rat-infested kitchen into a new HGTV-infested kitchen. We will end our trip with ten days in Peru, visiting some friends of ours doing mission work in Lima.
So there ya go. Our rough outline for the next 5 1/2 months. And it’s just that – a ROUGH outline. Only God knows the details. Who knows where He will take us? And who knows where your prayers will take us? Speaking of prayers, here’s how you can specifically intercede on our behalf during our adventure:
That our minds and hearts will be HERE, present, focused
Safety
Health
Relationships with new people and Kara and the Hunnicuts, our new roomies
Quick learning of Spanish
Hearts come to know God’s heart more
Growth in our marriage
