Fundraisers are a great way to help offset the cost of your trip. One thing you might not realize is that it’s important to set goals for each individual fundraiser and your fundraising efforts as a whole. For example, if your goal is to raise $5,000 at a bake sale but you only have 10 cakes to sell, they’d better be some mighty impressive cakes to go for $500 each. Be realistic. Do the math. Figure out what you will need in order to accomplish the goal you set. Remember: Failing to plan is planning to fail.
Some suggestions for fundraisers:
Consignment Store
If your girls have clothes in their closet they don’t wear (and what girl doesn’t?), collect their unwanted clothes to take to a consignment or secondhand store that will give you cash for them. Any clothing the store doesn’t purchase can be donated to charity.
Yard Sale
Ask for donations from the church, parents, local businesses, etc. Don’t forget to set up a drink/snack station—hungry shoppers will fork over a little of their cash for a tasty treat.
Make a Meal
Host a spaghetti supper, baked potato bar, pancake breakfast, or whatever kind of meal works in your area. People are going to eat anyway; they might as well eat your food and help your cause at the same time. The girls can help prepare and serve the food, which helps put a name and a face to the cause. Ask around and you might get the ingredients donated.
Car Wash
A time-honored tradition that has been a money-maker for generations.
Rent-a-Teen
Many people have a lot to do around the house….and not a lot of time to do it. For $20 they can rent a teen for a set number of hours to work in the yard, babysit, clean, or do any job that needs an extra set of hands.
Parents Day Out
Parents drop their kids off for an afternoon or evening and enjoy some alone time while the girls take care of their kids.
Fill in the Blank!
Be creative. If you have unique and/or wildly successful ideas let us know and we’ll add them to the list!
Whatever you do to raise money, make it fun!
