Hold Your Head High

When these things begin to happen, look up and hold your heads high, because the time when God will free you is near!

Stuff is Stuff

Jesus makes the point in Luke 12:15-21 that things aren’t “it”. Things don’t give you a relationship with God. And things don’t make your walk with God any deeper. The rich man in this story thought that he would have an easy life because he had everything he could possibly ever want or need. God called him a fool, because that night when he died, his things could do nothing for him. Where are you spending most of your time? Are you worrying about the next really important “thing” you’ve got to have and how to get it, or are you thinking about the Lord and how to know and love him more completely?
Jesus says it’s foolish to spend your time accumulating stuff that will only rust and decay in the end. God doesn’t give you everything you want because first, you don’t need it, and second, those things don’t matter anyway. People who always get what they want are commonly known in America as “spoiled brats”. They don’t have the self-control or discipline it takes to be mature. God wants you to be mature, to learn what’s really valuable and what isn’t; to sacrifice for the good of another person, of yourself, or of the kingdom of God. He promises to provide all you need. But his focus is on the eternal-the souls of men and women. That’s what really matter’s to God.

He Promises You Freedom

He Promises You Freedom

“The Lord has put his Spirit in me, because he appointed me to tell the Good News to the poor. He has sent me to tell the captives they are free and to tell the blind that they can see again. God sent me to free those who have been treated unfairly.” (Luke 4:18)

This is such an exciting verse! Did you know that you have been chosen to tell the Good News to the poor? The Lord has sent you to announce freedom. But not only have you been sent to announce freedom; you can have freedom as well! There is freedom in Jesus-freedom for everyone who struggles or suffers. What kind of needs do you have? What kinds of needs do your friends have? You’ve been chosen by God, and you’ve also been equipped with the power of God to get free, stay free, and bring freedom to anyone and everyone who needs it! Now that’s power-power over drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, lust, sex, bitterness, or whatever.

There was a movie about a man who gave up his life just to bring freedom to his people. He was beaten, tortured, and put on a chopping block. All he had to do was simply surrender his freedom, and he would live. His people would remain in bondage, but he could live. Instead, he let out a bloodcurdling cry, “Freeeeeedom!” He lost his life, but his people gained their freedom.

There is another story that hits home for all of us. Jesus died a horrible, shameful death on a cross so we could be free from sin and spend eternity with him. Don’t allow yourself to be in bondage over some stupid sin-a sin that Jesus has already paid the price for. Choose freedom today, and watch God work a miracle in your life and in the lives of your friends! He is the One who sets you free!

See for yourself: Matt. 1:21; John 8:36; Rom.6:14; 2 Cor. 3:17; Gal. 5:1, 13

Keep Dreaming

Wow! What a promise! God can do anything! Mark 10:27 should kick the limits right out of your dreams! There are plenty of things that you cannot do on your own, but with Christ all things are possible. Too many times we let our circumstances swallow us. We wear out, give up, and throw in the towel. We need to grab hold of this verse and realize that Jesus is the One who can do anything! You might need healing, money, help on a big test, a job, insight on how to witness to a stubborn, unsaved friend, or just a spot on the basketball team. It doesn’t matter what you’re need is. With Christ, all things are possible. In fact, we have a promise that says that the same Spirit which raised Christ from the dead lives in you! Now that’s power!
The Bible teaches us not to give up when things get tough. Hold on to God. There’s a story in Mark 10:46-52 about a blind man named Bartimaeus. Bartimaeus needed a miracle, and he heard that Jesus was passing by. He began to cry out to Jesus, and the crowd told him to shut up. So he cried out even louder. Jesus stopped, turned around, and asked the man nine words that changed Bartimaeus’s life forever: “What do you want me to do for you?” You know what? Bartimaeus got his miracle.
So the next time people are telling you that such-and-such will never happen, just smile with steadfast confidence in God’s Word, knowing that, with him, nothing is impossible!
See for yourself: Matt. 17:20; Mark 10:46-52; Luke 1:37

Jesus looked at them and said, “For people, this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.”                            -Mark 10:27

Hey, Soul Sister!

Did you know that you belong to the family of Christ? According to Mark 3:35, you are a sister of the Lord himself; and, as a member of his family, you are royal and privileged. Because you are a sister of Christ, you are perfectly cared for and protected. Your earthly family may fall short, but this family will never let you down. Some girls don’t know who they belong to. They aren’t living like sisters of Christ, because his true sisters don’t abuse their bodies, don’t abuse people, and don’t abuse their privileges. They don’t need an alternative lifestyle, because they have been promised an eternal lifestyle. Maybe you’ve been living like the rest of the world because you didn’t know about your family-a family of grace, but a family of conviction and strong character. You are called to carry on the heritage of the family of Christ.
See for yourself: Matt. 12:48; 23:8

“My true brother and sister and mother are those who do what God wants”. Mark 3:35

Rebekah-Fearless and Faithful

Rebekah was the mother of Jacob and Esau, but before that, she was just a teen with a big decision on her hands. We chatted her up about the huge encounter she had one afternoon at her father’s well.

Revolve: Has anything unusual ever happened when you came to the well?
Rebekah: Yeah! A few days ago, when I came to the well, this man and his camels were there. He asked me for a drink of water, so I was like, “Sure,” and I gave him some of my water and I poured some for his camels. It’s only common courtesy.

Revolve: So what did he say to you?
Rebekah: Well, he said he came from Canaan to find a wife for his master’s son, Issac. He said he had been really nervous about such a big task, and so he had prayed for God to lead him to the right girl. And he said that I was the answer to that prayer! Then he came home with me and told my family everything.

Revolve: Whoa! Didn’t it weird you out at all?
Rebekah: Not really. I mean, my dad had already started talking about when I would get married because I was the right age for it, and I felt a lot better when the guy told me that his master and my dad actually knew each other.

Revolve: So now you’re heading to a foreign country to marry someone you’ve never met? Are you a little freaked?
Rebekah: I believe with all my heart that God wants me to be Issac’s wife. Yeah, I’m a little nervous, but I know that He will be with me and help me to be a good wife.

Have you ever known God wanted you to do something that might seem a little scary? Peter did. But he learned the hard way that all you need is faith in the Lord to do great things! Check out Matthew 14:28-31 and read all about it.

Start Here

At Dream On, we worked with 30 Hour Famine and showed this AMAZING video during the weekend:

You might be asking the same question you see in the video: “Where do I start?” Start here! It’s so simple to get started and be a life changer for one person.

One of the most common questions people ask about the famine is “How do I raise the money?” 30 Hour Famine has given you all the tools you’ll need: http://www.30hourfamine.org/plan/before-the-famine/fundraising-tips. They’ve made every resource available. The only thing they need is YOU!

Here’s one of our favorite stories from a Revolve girl of how 30 Hour Famine impacted her:

“I did my first 30-Hour Famine with my youth group. I thought it would be hard and that I wouldn’t like it, but it was different than what I had imagined. I thought I wouldn’t be able to make it all 30 hours, but I did. I have never been so proud of myself. I raised $201, and my youth group together raised $2,300 and we are still collecting. We did so much, and it really opened my eyes to see what they went through. I never realized how lucky I am to be able to eat every day, and not have to worry much about whether I’ll be eating the next day. Learning about what is going on made me want to help out even more. I can tell you now, I’m so doing the famine next year. I recommend it to anyone and everyone.”
