Active Faith

In the Book of Acts, we see the followers looking to the Lord for instruction and guidance. They needed direction about how to spread the message of Christ. In Acts 13:2, the Holy Spirit speaks to them about sending out Barnabas and Saul. The Lord still gives clear instruction and direction to believers. The Holy Spirit still guides us through the will of God. The church in Acts worshiped, fasted, and waited for God to give instruction. They actively sought the Lord about what to do. Do you actively seek the Lord about the direction of your life and activities? We must follow the example of the apostles and pursue him. We hear from God when we listen for him to speak. If you want God to speak to you, then spend time with him, worshiping, fasting, and praying. If you will be faithful to listen, then he will speak.

30 Hour Famine

The 30 Hour Famine is an international youth movement to fight hunger.  Students fast for thirty hours and raise funds to help feed and care for children around the world.  By sacrificing and serving others, they are learning to think outside themselves and see the world as Christ sees it.  For more go to www.30hourfamine.org.  But first, check out Lauren’s story:

I did my first 30-Hour Famine with my youth group.  I thought it would be hard and that I wouldn’t like it, but it was different that what I had imagined.  I thought I wouldn’t be able to make it all 30 hours, but I did.  I have never been so proud of myself.  I raised $201, and my youth group together raised $2,300 and we are still collecting.  We did so much, and it really opened my eyes to see what they went through.  I never realized how lucky I am to be able to eat every day, and not have to worry much about whether I’ll be eating the next day.  Learning about what is going on made me want to help out even more.  I can tell you now, I’m so doing the famine next year.  I recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Hold Your Head High

When these things begin to happen, look up and hold your heads high, because the time when God will free you is near!

Keep Dreaming

Wow! What a promise! God can do anything! Mark 10:27 should kick the limits right out of your dreams! There are plenty of things that you cannot do on your own, but with Christ all things are possible. Too many times we let our circumstances swallow us. We wear out, give up, and throw in the towel. We need to grab hold of this verse and realize that Jesus is the One who can do anything! You might need healing, money, help on a big test, a job, insight on how to witness to a stubborn, unsaved friend, or just a spot on the basketball team. It doesn’t matter what you’re need is. With Christ, all things are possible. In fact, we have a promise that says that the same Spirit which raised Christ from the dead lives in you! Now that’s power!
The Bible teaches us not to give up when things get tough. Hold on to God. There’s a story in Mark 10:46-52 about a blind man named Bartimaeus. Bartimaeus needed a miracle, and he heard that Jesus was passing by. He began to cry out to Jesus, and the crowd told him to shut up. So he cried out even louder. Jesus stopped, turned around, and asked the man nine words that changed Bartimaeus’s life forever: “What do you want me to do for you?” You know what? Bartimaeus got his miracle.
So the next time people are telling you that such-and-such will never happen, just smile with steadfast confidence in God’s Word, knowing that, with him, nothing is impossible!
See for yourself: Matt. 17:20; Mark 10:46-52; Luke 1:37

Jesus looked at them and said, “For people, this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.”                            -Mark 10:27

Hey, Soul Sister!

Did you know that you belong to the family of Christ? According to Mark 3:35, you are a sister of the Lord himself; and, as a member of his family, you are royal and privileged. Because you are a sister of Christ, you are perfectly cared for and protected. Your earthly family may fall short, but this family will never let you down. Some girls don’t know who they belong to. They aren’t living like sisters of Christ, because his true sisters don’t abuse their bodies, don’t abuse people, and don’t abuse their privileges. They don’t need an alternative lifestyle, because they have been promised an eternal lifestyle. Maybe you’ve been living like the rest of the world because you didn’t know about your family-a family of grace, but a family of conviction and strong character. You are called to carry on the heritage of the family of Christ.
See for yourself: Matt. 12:48; 23:8

“My true brother and sister and mother are those who do what God wants”. Mark 3:35
